Only 2 graphite companies rank as “Industry Leading” in terms of ESG, according to Benchmark

For both natural and synthetic graphite, there are no producers nor developers based in China with ESG scores that would place them in the “Good” or “Industry Leading” categories. Benchmark Source previously reported that three-quarters of the graphite anode supply chain is controlled by the country.

In 2023, Benchmark forecasts that 0% of natural graphite production and 9% of synthetic graphite production will come from companies assessed as Good or Industry Leading in the Index.

By 2030, this is forecast to rise to 2% for natural graphite, but fall to 5% for synthetic graphite owing to the large expansion in production from companies with lower ESG scores.
