AXE has indicated that the next milestone is .."Design and build of microwave circuitry for readout devices, validated using electromagnetic simulation software" . Slated to be well underway in Q1 2024.
A high fidelity read out of qubit state to over 99% is what's required and has never been attempted at room temperature. If AXE can demonstrate such a level of sensing a state, then IMO we have a device. So far this workflow with other companies has involved super computers and superconducting qubits (at cryo temps) to achieve good read outs. The microwave circuitry that AXE will design will take advantage of low frequency pulses, longer coherence times in which to measure a qubit in superposition. There is no conventional way to verify and validate the circuits AXE builds, other than to use simulation software that essentially checks the math. This does demonstrate how far outside current tech this development of the 12CQ is.
