The simple fact is that your standard shareholder (excluding business and constituents ) recognised that no matter what they voted, the votes would still be outweighed by the other votes, ie the new shares placed to top shareholders and whoever else the board are "in bed" with. Most standard shareholders have sold from the good days and are not around to vote and make a difference. New shareholders have come in over recent months and taken these shares at lower prices and would be inclined more or less to either vote Yes or abstain.

It is very political and the positioning that has taken place to allow these things to eventuate is nothing short of unethical but unfortunately legal from what i can tell. There are only two ways for standard shareholders to voice their opinion, vote no (which would have little impact) or sell their shares, which they would happily take. The company knows this and that is why they can do what they bloody well please - which is wrong but that is the way it is unfortunately.
