Basically my understanding is some players in Washington State argued the Big Fish social casino app was in fact gambling, and so it was against the law and they deserve compensation. They claim that although no cash was won, by winning in the games it allowed players to continue to play, which they argue fits the bill of an economic reward, as the app can cost real money if you don't win. Thankfully CDI has worn the brunt of the action, still a big chunk of cash though. The legal side of things is a longer term risk, the whole 'freemium' gaming industry, especially gambling games, could be ripe for regulation in future.
