I have noticed that AIZ takes long runs up then long runs down constantly. After the fantastic results and dividend of 2016, the share price dropped to $1.65. Fortunately, I double my holding at $1.75. Then the steady climb started, right up to $3.30. Unfortunately I sold half of my holding at $2.58, thinking surely it wouldn't go beyond that.
Once again, upon reaching $3.30 and getting the stellar results and dividend of 2017, the fall has started again. I am actually cheering this one on so that I can buy my half holding again, hopefully around $2.
I can only guess that AIZ is a big fish in the NZ market and is used as a buying and selling toy there. I have a similar investment here where SUN goes up to $14 then falls back. I buy at $12.50 and sell half at $14. Rinse and repeat.
