They fly to 22 main centres domestically in NZ - all the major competition fly into either Auckland, Wellington or Christchurch - jetstar(budget service) fly to Dunedin, Queenstown, Nelson, New Plymouth, Napier & Palmerston North as well - 9 airports all up verses 22.
I checked against the latest statics for International arrivals to NZ (August 2016) & all the travel from international went through just 5 airports with:
1. Auckland - 150,272
2. Queenstown - 29,312
3. Christchurch - 25,424
4. Wellington - 14,768
5. Dundedin - 496
Reading further - 110,000 of those arrivals were there for holidays & by chance 110,000 in August stayed for between 8 & 14 days
Interestingly the Chinese are catching the New Zealand residence very quickly on overall numbers for August (NZ) 517,000 V (China) 409,000 - Australia is still number 1 at 897,000
