I'm from NZ and never flown Qantas so no idea what is like, sounds like a quick search would give some interesting reading. perhaps the isolation of the country would be a factor. though this affects NZ more than Aust.I don't think it would be a good move for NZ to allow AIRNZ to be sold off shore, hence why the govt bailed them out for 51% ownership, prevented anyone else coming in to save the day.Hopefully qantas is better than Jetstar is here, otherwise i'm scared to do the search. lol
