i reckon it eve goes a step further and if traders don't see an announcement start with "pleased" then throw the baby and the bath out the window pronto.
I couldn't reconcile the selling intensity with the announcement. But i suspect some vulture funds saw the opportunity to trigger stop losses and compound the confusion. Combined with sell stacking it was a recipe for chaos.
