It’s almost six months now since Alexium announced the signing of a supply agreement with Soft-Tex to exclusively purchase Alexicool PCM products for top-of-bed and mattress applications based on Soft-Tex’s Reactex technology.

Last month, Soft-Tex (which in March signed an exclusive innovation partnership with Serta Simmons Bedding) unveiled a new Serta iComfort Arctic collection of products “powered by Reactex”, which includes foam pillows, bed toppers, mattress protectors, mattress pads, travel accessories, seat cushions and sheets.


In addition to supplying innovation technology to SSB, Soft-Tex markets its own (established) brands of bedding products. Reactex is already featuring in a number of these brands, with each using a different name for its cooling range.

Therapedic has introduced a Polar Nights range of bedding products.

Although Alexium’s agreement with Soft-Tex is specifically for exclusive supply of Alexicool PCM in Reactex bedding applications, Soft-Tex says it has other applications of Reactex, beyond bedding, in development.

Home health applications in development include wheelchairs, scooters and therapeutic seat cushions.

It’s an interesting list of applications when compared with Alexium’s list of intended applications of its new (non-PCM) temperature-regulating technology, Phonon, which was announced to the market in August.

Beyond bedding applications, this (Phonon) technology has comparable opportunities in other notable markets, including upholstery, medical products, sporting goods, and outdoor apparel/accessories.
