So, if the share price went to, say, 44c they'd get a 100% return rather than 7.5c. As long as the share price stays below 7.5c above 22c (about 23.5c) they'll presumably take their repayment in cash. If it got about about 25c they'd start being tempted to take shares.

Even I would probably take that deal. A guaranteed (unless AEB defaults) 7.5% return, plus the chance of more.
