It was not mentioned in the announcement but I know a lot of international students who are big punters on soccer and horse racing when studying over here. All the big bookies let you fund your betting accounts via BPAY which would let you keep the transactions off your Australian accounts if paying directly using RMB and ChinaPayments. It might not count for much volume now but legislation is coming which prevents punters funding their betting accounts on credit card. This could see more action for ChinaPayments in the future if you can just fund your betting account through the Alipay app.
