I suspect the non-exec chairman knows a bit about how it was done in yesteryear, there was some low level automation on a very primitive repetitive task, love the smell of napalm (stainless electrodes) on a cold winters morning.
Apart from the fancy name of printing though, it can cut costs and lead times on a brand new machined component. My opinion - it's a winner long term, especially defense.
