Oakajee Port and Rail (OPR) is building the deepwater port near Geraldton. (OPR)
Oakajee Port and Rail remains confident it can deliver a deepwater port and rail project in the Mid West, despite a blowout in the completion date for the project.
The company is backed by Murchison Metals and Japan's Mitsubishi Corporation.
It won a tender process to build the $4 billion port, north of Geraldton.
O-P-R had anticipated the first shipment of ore from the port in early 2014.
Chief Executive John Langoulant now says following a detailed review that time frame has been revised.
"We're doing everything we can to see the first shipment of ore through Oakajee either very late in 2014 or early in 2015," he said.
The company has requested an extension to its agreed deadline from the State Government.
The Premier Colin Barnett says that request is being considered.
As for Colin Barnett consideing the request, there shouldnt be a problem at all because he has been around for a while and in the past 20 years its always been his pet project (the Midwest)

Oakajee, which has been on the drawing board since the 1970s, finally got the go-ahead last year. The then-Labor government awarded the tender to build the project to the Japanese-backed Oakajee Port and Rail.
OPR was to finance the project itself, with the state taking over ownership of the key infrastructure once it was built.
However, Colin Barnett flagged government involvement in Oakajee shortly after coming to power a few months later, claiming it would be the most important development in WA in the next 50 years.
