AKC 27/09/2013 16:35 ANNREP REL: 1635 HRS Auckland Council ANNREP: AKC: Annual report adoption tops off solid year Media Release 27 September 2013 Annual report adoption tops off solid year Auckland Council Group's annual report for the year to 30 June 2013 has been adopted by the council's governing body. The report details the organisation's progress in delivering on the vision to create the world's most liveable city through its wide-ranging services and resources. Auckland Council Group is comprised of Auckland Council and its council-controlled organisations. The report also highlights the organisation's achievements and financial statements, as well as performance against the Annual Plan 2011/2012 financial and non-financial targets. Features include: o Auckland maintained its place as the world's third-most liveable city in the 2012 Mercer Quality of Living Survey o The Auckland economy grew by 3.2 per cent in the year to March 2013 o High levels of the council's service and activities were delivered, with 73 per cent of performance measure targets achieved or exceeded There has been a significant amount of work in the past year to drive regional development and deliver projects, services and programmes for Aucklanders. These include: A more connected Auckland through o Agreement by the Government to fund a share of the City Rail Link o AMETI transport project underway with the new Panmure Bridge opened o Launch of the Hobsonville ferry service o Integrated ticketing for trains and ferry Supporting our communities through o A new Wellsford library o Installation of artificial sport turfs in Ellerslie, Westmere, Howick and R?nui. Keeping Aucklanders healthy and safe by o Continuing works on the Hunua water mains project Transforming our town centres through o Completion of New Lynn's Merchant Quarter o Fort and Lorne streets shared spaces upgrades Boosting our economy through o Transformation of Shed 10 into a cruise ship terminal o Auckland's entertainment and conferencing facilities brought more than $100 million of economic activity in to the region o Three mayoral-led overseas business missions Engaging with Aucklanders through o Development of the draft Auckland Unitary Plan, which attracted more than 22,000 pieces of feedback from Aucklanders during the first round of public engagement Key financial results for 2012/2013 report include: o An after-tax operating surplus of $246 million, against a budget of $20 million. A number of factors have influenced this including vested assets, asset revaluation, cost reductions and income growth o Operational savings of $53 million were achieved, taking the cumulative annual savings achieved by council to $134 million per annum since the organisation's inception o $1.3 billion was invested in maintaining, improving and adding to the quality of our capital assets - including community facilities, such as libraries, and regional infrastructure such as roading and water infrastructure o The group's net debt of $5.5 billion is slightly less than forecast in the Long-term Plan.
