Impairment loss means the company wrote off impairment loss on the asset previous year since its value was lower than expected. This year the value of the asset goes up compared to previous year, so the company reverse the impairment write off of previous year and subsequently asset value is now higher. Companies may use this tactic to smooth out earnings, in other words, earnings management.
