Apart from the 12CQ, AXE is also into developing advanced materials using machine learning to make new compounds and materials. This can be used in the biochemical arena as well.
The other diversification is into AI. Neural Networks are a well known construction of input and output arrays used in classical pattern recognition and image classification etc. Ongoing research is to build on how quantum circuits can mimic classical neural networks and be more efficient. Qiskit is the software that can work with quantum circuits, but beyond that, this has to interface with general AI and machine learning frameworks like Python and Google's Tensorflow to deploy useful real world use cases. Along the way, the AI community expects to see new use cases not thought of yet. Very much a learn-as-you-go research field until something clicks.
