If you want to understand the financial statement in SAR and AR Take one then google the terms and know what they mean. it should take less than 100 HRS but you can spread it out over several months. to start I would do the P&L then Ballance sheet. Leave the rest till questions arise. Also reading AR notes on different lines helps a lot to increasing understanding.
Do not even look at Glossy presentations from any company. Read and under stand the Qs, SAR and AR from the company. The company has a legal obligation to increase the SP. Glossy presentations are a major tool for that task. These focus only on the positive high points, as they should.
AR is an audited legal document. by law it has to contain all info.
