Engineering is ranked as the most common undergraduate degree for fortune 500 CEOs, and has been for a while. Not to say that because someone is an engineer that they are adept to be or become a CEO of a company, but to imply there's a problem with an engineer being the CEO of a publicly listed company doesn't really hold.
