I think it's more the fact that they are hitting Cu, Zn AND Ag (with some background gold in other areas from memory?). I also note from their Quarterly they said they intersected stringer sulphides through the footwall zone at The Cup. That, and a few other factors, suggests to me they are hunting around an area with VMS mineralisation, as they have suggested too.
VMS deposits almost always occur in clusters (I previously worked on VMS projects in Flin-Flon belt in Canada). They are not normally huge deposits, but rather a smattering of small high-grade Cu-Zn-Ag-Au dominant deposits. They are fantastic to mine (and extremely valuable) if you can find a cluster of them.
Sandfire / De Grussa is the obvious Australian example.
I actually remember when Legend was drilling to the north of Gateway's ground a few years back. I had a couple of conversations with their geologist at the time (I think his name was David?) and they were very bullish about the Gidgee area. It has all the hallmarks of fertile VMS mineralisation. I think they also had a few promising results, but their ground was difficult drilling because of dolerite intrusions.
The Gateway ground doesn't appear to have the dolerite from what I've seen.
Nobody has really made a strong push into exploration at Gidgee. I was really hoping Panoramic Resources (PAN) would have drilled for base metals but it doesn't appear this is going to happen (they seem focused on gold).
Apologies for the long post - the point I'm trying to make is that the setup on this ground is very promising for VMS mineralisation. The key for Gateway is going to be whether they can successfully hit mineralisation with the high grades needed to make the mines economic. I would think there is a very good chance they have those high grade deposits, the hard part is that it is like trying to find a needle in a haystack, so you always need a bit of luck.
