There is such a thing as tax profit taking too.
Imagine one buys in and is up 100%. Tax year is coming to an end and you have no income registered yet. Put through a $18k profit tax free, or $36k profit if held for more than a year. Or take more profit but keep it in the 19% tax band - again 50% reduced if held for a year.
I'm not saying that that is happening, but I have done such some years.
One could put through a $74,000 profit and only have to pay $1,786 tax if held for over a year.
