Recon it does provide a level playing field? I tend to think the opposite. So many posts on social media by some close to the companies are clearly to intentionally mislead punters to get them to buy up. The more positive (albeit blatantly wrong) information they pump out, the more followers they get, the greater the effect.

I almost think SM allows some companies to two speed promote. Insiders get the real info, punters get the 'public' info.

Only have to look at a certain recent IPO setting up 'pump' groups on social media asking people to plaster info about the stock everywhere to increase the price.

I know empirical evidence shows that markets are predominately efficient, at least from a micro perspective, but I am not so sure that applies to the spec game where a little money can move a stock quite a lot. Some of these pump and dumps take a lot of time to reach an equilibrium, mostly because a lot of people have no idea what they are buying. Then again as you say, thats not our fault.
