Thing is, Binwood, fear overides all other emotions. Spec traders are some of the least sophisticated (emotionally) and the market has a much higher % of amateur participants.
During the GFC, some of the microcaps I held literally became zombie stocks overnight, impossible to move after the initial race to the exit (at any price). Fukashima, Euro crisis and Brexit were mini examples of this, though tame in comparison.
Not a problem, as you say, for cash backed shells, with good registers, but 95% of participants aren't keen to sit and ride these things out for 12-18 months.
