Woodside has been in Canada for LNG purposes since they acquired Apache's 50% interest (along with Apache's acreage in the Horn River and Liard Basins) back in early 2015. Chevron is the other 50%.

Of note is Chevron/Woodside have applied for increase in size of license (from 10 MmBTU pa & 2 trains to 18MmBTU pa & 3 trains).
"Chevron and Woodside have re-evaluated the originally proposed 2-train, 10 MPTA LNG plant development concept, with a focus on improving Kitimat LNG cost of supply competitiveness relative to other global LNG projects," Chevron said in a statement.

They also pledged to use what was considered a game changer ... "e-drive" ... becoming the Tesla of LNG plants. Instead of burning natural gas to power the plant (and hence carbon emissions) they will use electricity generated from nearby hydro. While being the cleanest LNG plant it is likely to be the most expensive.

Keep in mind the original Chevron/Apache LNG facility was approved in 2011. The current plans expect 2029 as start of operations.

If you're wondering where the Horn River and Liard Basins are ... they are north of the Montney ... 2nd largest (after Montney) gas resource with around 200Tcf of unconventional (shale) gas ... about 600,000 acres .... and the source gas for the project. Back in the day (2012), Apache was drilling wells that came on line at 22Mmcfpd with EUR of 18Bcf. WPL became the upstream operator in the acquisition. Put simply by WPL

If you really want to get some history of LNG in BC
https://www.sightline.org/research_item/maps-british-columbia-lng-proposals/ and download the report. It is Jan 2018, and lots of action in 2018 which changes some of the content but while the read is relatively short to reference material is lengthy.
