Has Jerko made the effort to learn to speak Spanish? If he has that will open doors. I know this first hand. Furthermore you will be taken much more seriously, instead of humoured as foreigners perceived to be clueless, often are. Having been to Thailand approximately 200 times on business over the past 36 years, I have been comfortable speaking Thai for about 30 of those years. And it goes down very well because the effort you have made to learn it is very much appreciated. Being an adult you don't just pick it up, you have to knuckle down and painstakenly learn it. Furthermore native English speakers (I am one) tend to have this somewhat arrogant expectation that wherever they go English should be spoken if nothing else, just for their benefit. I have at times heard some loud mouth (American - sorry!) burst out with : "Goddam it, doesn't anyone speak English around here!" Spanish should not be too difficult to learn because it uses the Roman alphabet, and as such you can immediately read it. So Jerko, at the AGM, you can speak Spanish to me, and I will reply in Thai.
