    Announcing visuals ahead of assays?

Many schools of thought with no real consensus I suspect. [A case of damned if you do vs damned if you don't.]

Potential economic mineralisation OK where good results are fairly obvious early in a program is one reason.

"Easy" enough for high percentages of base metals in a hole (Zn, Cu, Pb) where any experienced geo will have some idea if grades could be economic.

Nickel a little trickier but some is quite easy especially with PXrf commonly available now.

Au often has associations that could be promising pre-assay. However, for the first hole into an area it would take a brave Gunga Din to be really bullish. Even visible gold doesn't always translate into good assays but often does as well as stirring market sentiment if announced early.

The problem is if the assays don't match the visuals and there is a loss of faith and SP. No brainer in that as you, @Topo, are probably aware.

For PSL and the EIS hole? Not a clear cut decision whether to announce or not IMO. The visuals are interesting but lack obvious economic content. However,

May have been to show progress with some 1200m (20% complete?) of drilling completed since the start of this program. The 4 trays of core with interesting features may have been a bonus for a useful(?) update?
