"Manipulation" is a strong word; what they are dong is putting management's favourable spin on things. Nothing overly remarkable about that, I don't believe. It's what the majority of executives of publicly-listed companies do.
Fortunately, audited financial statements are produced, which allows those who have the inclination, to work out what the real underlying financial performance is
Unless you are arguing that the audited accounts themselves are being manipulated, which would be fraudulent, so I like to believe that isn't the case.
