I agree that the 'we f-ed up' part of the optics are trivial and they'd not much care, but the optics of breaking an agreement aren't good, even if there was no legally-binding agreement or obligation, which there probably wasn't (OMG, don't let gcar attack me for making an assumption without proof! Noooooo!)
By May the price will probably be even lower, so there will be little point in ATL selling - I think they can buy a packet of chocolate chip cookies for the senior staff meeting without needing to sell their entire AGY holding to partially subsidise it.
I'm not seeing this show as a case of watching how AGY can dig itself out of this mess, more looking forward to seeing how toxic the fumes of this dumpster fire get and how badly they impact the people who refuse to abandon their positions within it, and what creative ways they find to blame and attack the people who suggest they may want to step out of the flaming dumpster.
I don't honestly think AGY is all that concerned about its shareholders, let's not kid ourselves. But, hey, if I'm wrong, I'll be glad to buy a few hundred thousand shares in a couple of years even if I have to pawn an old pair of shoes to pay for them.
