Anson Resources Ltd (ASX:ASN, OTCQB:ANSNF) has lodged a Notice of Intent (NOI) to start an exploration drilling program at its Yellow Cat Uranium and Vanadium Project in Utah, USA.
Shallow mineralisation
The NOI was submitted to the United States Department of the Interior, Bureau of Land Management (BLM), and the Utah Division of Oil, Gas and Mining (UDOGM).
Anson's proposed drilling program includes 24 exploration holes along a 2-kilometre strike extension of the mineralised trend from the Windy Point Mine to the Mineral Treasure Mine.
The mineralisation in this area is shallow and lies above the water table, which allows for cost-effective, shallow drilling with minimal environmental disturbance.
Anson has finalised the required environmental and cultural surveys over the proposed exploration area, which have resulted in minor alterations to the drill hole locations.
The surveys indicated no significant environmental or cultural impacts, with no direct effects on special status plant species or bird nesting habitats.
High-grade values
The Eastern claim block within the Yellow Cat Project hosts a well-defined east-west zone of uranium and vanadium mineralisation, with historical samples showing high-grade values of up to 10.33% U3O8 (uranium oxide) and 25.6% V2O5 (vanadium pentoxide).
Anson plans to use diamond core drilling which will enable assaying for uranium and vanadium and confirmatory downhole gamma logging.
The Yellow Cat Project is on the Colorado Plateau, a region that has recently garnered significant interest from exploration companies due to rising uranium prices and increased support from the US Government.
The project area has a history of uranium and vanadium production dating back to the late 1800s, with significant output during the mid-20th century.
High-grade uranium, vanadium
Anson's exploration program at Yellow Cat is supported by previous fieldwork and laboratory analyses, which have confirmed the presence of high-grade uranium and vanadium mineralisation.
The company aims to further delineate this mineralisation through its upcoming drilling program, which will start immediately upon receipt of regulatory approvals.
Yellow Cat benefits from its proximity to the White Mesa Mill, the only conventional uranium and vanadium mill in the United States.
This strategic location may offer a low-cost processing option for any future production, eliminating the need for significant capital investment in milling infrastructure.
