A new pathology company has to run the gauntlet of existing companies with existing tests, and those existing companies have cosy agreements which involve kickbacks (eg. cruises to doctors who use such and such company, or trips to exotic locations for conferences, or other freebies). This has been the subject of investigations by journalists, and I think a 4 corners program. It's why they don't care about higher diagnostic accuracy. Nobody wants to rock the boat. It's working just fine...for them!

This is the real commercial world, not fantasyland.
