You're misunderstanding what it means... Proof of concept means they have PROVEN the concept in a pilot experiment/process, the results are PROVEN in a controlled test. Next stage is to commercialise and expand to larger scale samples i.e. as the announcement stated, clinical trials once they scale up to futher support the proof of concept.
