Well traders are needed in the market as well because they provide volume but there is also such a thing as an attempted
gap close.
Any number of holders could make market depth look weak too. It's how shares become manipulated. Buy at the price
you want then pull your sell order. All part of the games played in market depth and many respond in different ways.
You do need a full wallet to bully Mr Market though because he is one clever sod.
He could also shoot you in the foot when you least expect it.

Looking for gaps that eventually become swallowed by weekly or monthly charts - well lots of examples there but ignore
fundamentals at your peril I think.

Of course I can understand core holdings but some for trading - done often in any number of shares.
