1) That’s not the only way. What about flats in high-rise buildings?
2) The entire grid (poles, wires, underground cables, transformers etc) could become overloaded. Basically all the chemical energy currently generated by burning petrol and diesel and LPG would have to be distributed as electrical energy through the existing infrastructure. I doubt it could cope. Companies are already being told to load-shed on hot days so everyone can use their A/C!
