if the company is aiming for the long game to go all the way to commercialisation, it makes sense to bring in commercial partners to fund the pivotal trials. Alternative view is that most companies with innovative, groundbreaking, life saving commercial products and IPs with solid clinical results could well be bought out around the early stage of pivotal trials I reckon.
