Because I have a percentage of my net worth in speculative investments, especially drug and device companies as I have a scientific background so I feel like I can evaluate those companies reasonably well. I've made massive amounts of money with these types of investments in the past. Not saying that I definitely will here, because past performance does not guarantee future returns but I am willing to risk a chunk of my wealth in companies that I see as having asymmetric upside over the long-term.
With any speculative investment only put in money you are willing to lose and take multiple shots on goal so if one or two don't pan out you still have the chance for big gains. It's essentially VC investing for retail.
