    Induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) provide an exciting tool for the analysis of human tissues in vitro. The ability to differentiate these cells into any tissue type of the body make them particularly attractive for improving our understanding of both basic biology and disease mechanism. Our group focuses on using human iPSCs to generate skeletal muscle to help us understand muscle development, model inherited diseases, and test new therapies for the treatment of rare muscle diseases.

    We also use skeletal muscle grown from induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) to model disease and test new drug targets. iPSCs are cells which can be collected from patients’ blood and grown in the laboratory into various tissues including muscle. These muscle tissues can be used to study the patient’s disease in a dish, without the need for an invasive muscle biopsy. Through the MCRI’s Stem cell medicine and Disease Modelling Facilities the same muscle cells can be used to identify new drug targets and potential treatments.

    Perhaps this is something to do with the new R&D collaboration to further explore ATL1102 ?
