@arsenic I remember at Uni many years ago, a comment which stuck in my mind form one of the more honest geology lecturers.

"The theories we teach were invented after the discoveries were originally made, by accident."

That's why there are specialists in specific deposits and more particularly in specific areas where those theories play out and repeat.

A lot of geos take themselves too seriously, they are normally the ones that are iffy at best, it's the laid back super competent ones that have a flair for the art that are the ones I listen to, they are few and far between. Just an observation.
