Governments always inflate vs going broke, that way they can blame other factors instead of themselves, as long as they kick the can down the road they have nothing to worry so they think. Sometimes they get lucky and pass the problem on to their replacement or the government changes. These rate hikes are the best they can do, and though they are small in our eyes for anybody with large sums of debt it's probably quite unnerving not knowing if they are going to be able to pay the bills each month! For us guys that have always saved and lived within our means and always been laughed at for stacking PM's, suddenly we don't look so stupid !
