Nadolol has an application way beyond smoking cessation. We have had a trial in mild asthma paid for by the USA National Institute of Health. This seems to have dropped off the radar and we are still awaiting final results. I have always believed that the simple fact that the NIH was prepared to finance this whole programme was serious endorsement of this drug as a treatment for asthma. There is a serious unmet need in asthma treatment and the market for a successful drug is huge.
However the real pot of gold is the inhaled drug to treat COPD, asthma, cystic fibrosis and other respiratory conditions. This market is huge and as far as I can find out, there is nothing else on the horizon. Smoking cessation is mostly an early route to market. It is a side show in the over-all potential.
