Wow, this thread reminds me just how rare ESOPs and upfront options are for Australians at large. This is common practice in the USA. When I worked for a US company here in Australia they offered as all options and it was the first time for me and many others there.
This is really really stupidly common in the USA. And it just reminds me of how far ahead US companies are in this respect to all others.
