Well it surprised me, I only recently learned this myself and I remember when the UK handed control of Hong Kong to China all those years ago it was going to be one country, two systems when Deng Xiaoping was leader of China. Hong Kong has always been a major international financial hub and now everything is so much different since the pandemic that we no longer enjoy close cooperation on mutual legal assistance, extraditions and prisoner transfers. I miss the days of 10 - 20 years ago when Australia and China had a burgeoning relationship which provided so many opportunities for mutually beneficial growth. I hope in the future we can return to the way we were then. Right now there is a mutual deficit of trust I'm afraid.
