I cannot imagine myself being in WP's position and drawing that salary. I'm speaking from experience too. I managed an engineering company that I had no ownership in for over 25 years. During the 2012-2014 apocalypse that hit engineering in my state I drew a weekly salary of $240. I did this because we could barely afford to pay the staff who were actually making something, let alone intangibles like me. I am not rolling in cash, so my wife largely supported us through this and I got no reward at the end of the period either, leaving that company without even taking severance. This might seem a bit extreme, but $1.5m for crashing this company into rocks would tingle in the conscience of anyone other than a rogue.
