I am not sure what your concern is here. Mary is a non-exec director and gets $50K a year for her position. She has already bought more than $50K worth of shares in the short time she has been on the board. She has more than fulfilled her requirement.
Look around at most small cap companies and see how many of the directors have bought their shares with their own money and not been granted them as freebies.
