That was my recollection as well. Socionext will sell these chips in their device and pay royalties.
Also the phrase:
a milestone payment of US$2.25M to a major supplier in advance of wafer fabrication for the production
version of the Akida device.
is a bit cute.
"in advance of" doesn't mean that the paymeny was due for wafer fabrication. and
"milestone" kinda means non-recuring, not a deposit.
And in a perfect world I like to think the outgoing CEO, on his last day said: You don't need me now. The ducks are alligned. I'm going fishing.
