    CETO Hydrodynamics - CETO Unit Hydrodynamic Testing and Validation

    "MARINET supports CETO Hydrodynamics testing at FloWave, University of Edinburgh, Scotland."

    CETO Hydrodynamics spent 10 days testing at UEDIN's FloWave All-Water Combined Current and Wave Test Facility.
    The current tank testing at 1:20 scale was designed to investigate the influence of the CETO shape on the absorbed power, find the preferred PTO parameters and achieve accurate estimations of loads under operating and extreme sea states. The influence of combined wave and currents on the device was also investigated together with the performance of the device under regular and long and short crested irregular waves. It was observed that a very high efficiency can be achieved under regular wave assumption whereas the efficiency reduces in irregular waves. However, the spreading of waves have minimal effect on the device’s performance and loads. In addition, combined wave and current slightly decrease the performance. This is due to the change in the wave number and water particle velocity in the presence of currents which influences the optimum PTO settings.

    This appears to contradict what is in the announcement because it has an onboard PTO.

    Unless of course they are conducting two trials, one with an onboard PTO and one with external PTO.

    I would love CWE to put out a video similar to what Albatern have done showing how the test tank works.
