Possibly the omomyc CPPs are able to target cancer cells, but the omomyc experiments might have used direct injection due to other technical and economic considerations. Just a few off the top of my head (and I really don't know much about this technology at all):
- use lower quantity (these are likely expensive to produce)
- less chance of unexpected side effects
- reduce chance of peptides being filtered from the blood
- less chance for an immune response to make the peptides ineffective
- numerous other technical, ecomonic reasons
Any or all of these would actually be impediments to commercialising the drug, but it would still be necessary to see if the CPP/omomyc combination affects the cancer cells in-vivo before introducing other complications.
