Over the years Richard Li has read of some elusive or real technological advancement and thought 'Why don't we do that too?' Think air conditioners, Pride TV, uctv.fm, Mongolian manganese, Priority One, free WiFi in Melbourne, Jermaine Jackson and music competitions, grapes, etc..
All of these 'Why don't we do that too?' forays were total failures - all of them, and more.
This is an extreme manifestation of the Dunning-Kruger effect, which is defined on Wiki as a cognitive bias in which people of low ability have illusory superiority and mistakenly assess their cognitive ability as greater than it is.
Perhaps GCN's next move should be setting up a radiocarbon laboratory to date the hair follicles of male teenagers, in order to predict if they will go bald. That would bring revenue flowing in, to swell GCN's existing nest egg of $18.00 in the bank.
