I'm just not convinced of a sale of this stock to a big bidder (although BIG bids will come no doubt). If they sell to say Apple or Sony, Apple or Sony are likely to capitalise on their investment on their own products and maybe lease the tech to non-competitive products (e.g. Sony allowing BMW to incorporate in their cars) but Apple is never going to let Samsung have the chips.
Yes AKP would get a good sale price but they are also effectively shutting out a whole heap of the market if they sell to someone who is going to keep it for their own products to gain a competitive advantage. Compare to the option of building and selling the chips to the whole market - less massive windfall upfront, very strong ongoing sales and licensing fees...
