Yes AKP would get a good sale price but they are also effectively shutting out a whole heap of the market if they sell to someone who is going to keep it for their own products to gain a competitive advantage. Compare to the option of building and selling the chips to the whole market - less massive windfall upfront, very strong ongoing sales and licensing fees...

Hmm... jonfoulkes... methinks you have not attended an AGM, or spoken with Fred.
He is not a young man, and regrets ever taking AKP public.
He is not interested in a long term management role in a major international IT company. he is definitely open to offers. Selling his stake makes him an instant billionaire, why wouldn't you do it ?
