I have done similar calcs and based on those calcs hardly anything on the stock market seems attractive. like you said. Almost 20 years to get the money back but that doesn't account for the effects of inflation I am guessing.
I think 12 percent growth over the long term is possible if they come up with blockbuster treatments like the csl112 every now and then. China is a growing market. India id a growing market. In the very long term, Africa could be the new China in terms of growth rate (undeveloped countries grow at a much faster ratethan developed countries). Assuming there are no world wars where the superpowers or developed nations fight each other I am bullish on thevery long term future of the markets (20 to 50 years from now). When looking that much into the future, the numbers csn sound ridiculous but they aren't as high as they sound because of compounding effects.
Sure I could wait for a downturn, but who knows when that will happen. Here is a scenatio. China us Trade gets sorted. Fed keeps rate low. Dow rallies to 35000 over the next 2 years. CSL get a hitof that uptrend and goes to 250 to 300 over the next 2 year's. . CSL112 is ssuccessful. That adds another 80 dollars to the share price. So at the point the share pricespikes to around 350 per share (2.5 years from now).
then comes some bad news as it always does. Either a global downturn after a hard run up of share markets or perhaps some bad news company specific. The shapr price drops a whopping 40 percent from all time spikehigh of 350. The share price would still be 210. More than 15 percent higher than today. In the mean time dividend would have added another 3 percent.
perhaps Fomo is not the right word. All it is is that there is a small possibility that the share price might never go below what it is today and if it keeps marching on, I don't want to be in 2030 with no csl shares to my name.
now may not be a great time to enter but it most certainly is not the worse time to enter either.
