It is very possible that the impressive Cymerus technology could greatly improve the economical and efficient production of beneficial stem cell treatments. But if I understand the situation correctly it would not just be a simple matter of MSB plonking a new manufacturing process on top of its very advanced and increasingly impressive phase 3 trials.
I suspect they would have to go back to square one and convince the FDA of safety, efficacy and mode of action of a quite different product. The fact that they are relatives in the stem cell "family" does not give the idea a head start.
The safety issue alone would require trials over some years and with vastly more subjects than the few that CYP has tested. MSB is too close to victory to consider that.
It's a fair hope that some outfit might rescue CYP but it won't be MSB. The big pharma boys appear to want to join the party a very long way towards a successful conclusion. The support of experts such as Prof Hunter and others is reassuring to SH but it's got no value to TO prospects. They need years of safety, proof of efficacy and documented science before they'll be interested. That takes hundreds of millions of dollars quite apart from successful trials. Where will the money come from?
